Writing Tips: Office Refresh

Alright, I haven’t spent much time blogging this year; sharing writing tips or anything about writing in general. I could blame the pandemic or being an entrepreneur. I could blame just about everything involved in teaching writing to more than 60 students, spending a lot of my time with editors, rewrites, and navigating the query process — that one really had me in the trenches — AND the world of independent publishing.

Truthfully, it got pushed to the side each and every time there was an idea, or the seed of an idea to blog about. Busyness does that.

I knew I needed a change — a way to focus; finetune my writing process and productivity. And so, I gave my office a refresh. And now it’s got an old-world time traveller vibe that gives me a quiet, cozy space to truly call my own.

I’ve gifted myself a fortress of solitude — a place for me to create; a place to hold Zoom meetings and handle all the writerly business things; and a place to hide from the trappings and responsibilities of parenthood.

It’s wonderful.

I hope you find this tip helpful. It certainly helped me cross the finish line with Woman on the Wall. A clear head and fresh space can do that!

Writing sprints are another way to get in the zone and make serious progress. They’re my favourite way to make serious progress, and I wrote all about them here.

I share plenty of writing tips on social media.
