Description

The Poetic Print

This Skaði art card features the Nordic Jötunn goddess of winter and the darkness. I wrote it in the form of a poem to celebrate Norse storytelling and the style of the Poetic Edda. Skaði is one of the many primordial goddesses that figure prominently in mythology from almost every part of the world. The rune I chose to include in the poem is Isa – ice. It is printed on archival paper and packaged just for you.

The Inspiration

At the beginning of 2024, I had the honour of participating in a myth making workshop with mythic storyteller Angharad Wynne. There, we explored the ancient Mesopotamian myth of Inanna and honed our skills for fleshing out the bones of these old stories and retelling them through the lens of our own experiences and contemporary feminist elements. Each self-identifying woman participating received a powerful ancient feminine force to learn about and we worked through our own styles to retell parts of their stories.

The Artist

Robin Rivers is a multidisciplinary storyteller, exploring the nature of time through memory, myth, and magic. Her work often includes her original photography, handmade papers, ephemera collected on her travels, and retellings of old stories; and is deeply influenced by her Polish and French roots. Robin creates all pieces at Studio Albertine in Vancouver, Canada—on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. This includes the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
