Description
The Original
Binaries by Robin Rivers, an original mixed-media collage, is No. 1 in my Luminaris Series. I created this piece using vintage papers, transparent treated acetate, paint, vintage wedding dress remnants, and matte medium on paper.
It measures 11×17″. I will ship this piece flat to ensure no creasing occurs. Please note that colours and contrast vary between different monitors. The colours of the print may not match your monitor’s display exactly. Additionally, copyright of my artwork does not transfer with purchase.
The Inspiration
I first began considering binary stars when I began working on a poetry project about the nature of time and how memory differs from factual recollection. I became fascinated by how these astral bodies interact with each other reflect human relationships as well. This piece comes from that and was made on March 28, 2025 just hours before the solar eclipse which aligned the Moon, Mercury, Rahu, Sun, Saturn, and Venus in Pisces. For astrology lovers, this is a powerful time.
The Artist
Robin Rivers is a multidisciplinary storyteller, exploring the nature of time through memory, myth, and magic. Her work often includes her original photography, handmade papers, ephemera collected on her travels, and retellings of old stories; and is deeply influenced by her Polish and French roots. Robin creates all pieces at Studio Albertine in Vancouver, Canada—on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. This includes the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
