New Eye Glasses

Eye glasses for life

At age six, I couldn’t see the board at school. My little spirit shook the first time I sat in the big, fake leather chair at the eye doctor’s office.

Twice, sometimes three, and even four, times a year, I sat in that same chair. The world around me blurred in more dramatic ways. My eyes. Oh, my eyes.

“She could lose her sight,” I once heard the doctor say.

But, somewhere around age 10, these visits slowed. No one explained why.

In my heart, though, I knew. I wouldn’t lose my sight, but I’d spend the rest of my life obligated to glasses and the health of my eyes.

My eyes get top-shelf treatment

In the years that followed, dozens of eye glasses came and went. I treated eye appointments as self-care, and fell in love with the routine of giving my eyes got top-shelf treatment.

I graduated to progressive lenses three years ago. And, since they’re so damn expensive, I knew the annual replacement of glasses would have to slow.  My last pair took a beating — literally on life support these last few months.

So, when my prescription changed, it thrilled me to pick out a new pair.
