The Female Gaze

The Female Gaze emerged from the experience of walking the land of Southern France and the stories it revealed. For nearly a month, I spent my days on foot in the Luberon region, listening deeply, photographing places under different conditions, listening to the trees and the water. It took me into liminal spaces where the old ones showed me the magic of the land and the powerful feminine that never disappeared; it withdrew into the land and the old places, waiting us to listen and give form to what wants to return. These ancient forces lead me to specific imagery – water, fire, crossroads, sacred groves – that carries the power of the natural world that they want restored.

Working with archival materials and my original photography—influenced deeply by my French and Polish roots—I recreate pieces of patriarchal iconography through a feminist lens. These are windows into the old ways, if cultural memory had been centered on women as the origin throughout history. Each window becomes a bridge, returning their primordial power back to the world.
