What Awake Cannot Hold Limited Edition Prints by Robin Rivers are archival prints of an original mixed-media collage created using vintage papers, handmade papers, stamps,and matte medium on paper.

The Inspiration for What Awake Cannot Hold by Robin Rivers

I made this piece as a part of a trio after writing the poem What Awake Cannot Hold. The central image of the woman considers sleep and dreams. What we experience in those spaces often cannot return as a part of the awake world. 

The Artist

Multidisciplinary storyteller Robin Rivers explores the nature of time through memory, myth, and magic. Her work often includes her original photography, handmade papers, ephemera collected on her travels, and retellings of old stories. It is deeply influenced by her Polish and French roots. Robin creates all pieces at Studio Albertine in Vancouver, Canada—on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. This includes the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
